WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Washington State men's and women's cross country teams continued its fall schedule with its second meet of the weekend Saturday morning at the Whitworth Open from Veterans Memorial Golf Course.
Senior native of Maple Valley, Wash.,
Ethan Martin, posted the top time for the Cougars in the men's 8k as he finished 23rd overall in 25:31.7. The time was a a 30-second improvement from his previous career-best in 8k races. Martin opened the race in the top-20 of the field through the first 4k, and eventually closed with a final 2k-split of 6:26.8 to finish under a minute off of the lead pace.
Emmett Klus (25:58.1),
Alec Barran (26:23.9), and
Ferran Verges (26:29.7) also reached new career-best times in Saturday's 8K will several freshman made their collegiate 8k debuts.
On the women's side,
Sophia Cushman ran from the front half of the women's 6k field and eventually finished ninth overall with a time of 23:32.5.

Washington State will take another one-week haitus from competition as it continues to train towards October's championship events. The Cougars return to action at the 2023 NCAA Championships location on Oct. 14, at the NCAA Pre-Nationals from Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va. WSU will also send runners to the LC State Invitational on Oct. 14, in Lewiston, Idaho.
