Current and former Cougs continue USATF Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. — A pair of Washington State men's track and field alumni finished top five in their respective events Saturday, the third day of the 2023 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field. Brock Eager placed fourth in the men's hammer with a 74.28m/ 248' 11" throw and CJ Allen continued his breakout season with a 48.51 to pace the first of two men's 400m semifinals Saturday night.

Allen will
compete in the 400m hurdles finals back at Hayward Field tomorrow night starting at 6:42 p.m. on Peacock.

Jared McAlvey, runner-up in the Pac-12 in the 400m hurdles for the Cougars this season, made his USA Championships debut with a sixth-place finish in the second first-round heat on Friday night.  While running alongside the likes of the top-ranked American 400-meter hurdler, Rai Benjamin, and a talented second heat, McAlvey clocked a 52.03 and finished just two spots out of a finals qualifying time as the Walla Walla native capped his stellar junior campaign.

A former Pac-12 Champion in the men's hammer throw, Brock Eager, followed up a lifetime-best of 76.58m in his last outing at the Iron Wood Classic in Rathdrum, Idaho, with a 243-foot, eight-inch throw to earn three finals attempts and a fourth overall finish on Saturday.
