Cougars continue Pac-12 Championships, book additional spots in Sunday finals

 WALNUT, Calif. — Washington State men's and women's track and field teams combined for four top-five finishes with four track athletes punching tickets into Sunday finals in the second of three days at the Pac-12 Track & Field Championships Saturday at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.

True freshman Louie Hinchliffe qualified for the men's 100-meter dash finals with a second-place finish in 10.25 in the first prelim heat.  Parker Duskin, also in his conference championships debut, advanced through the men's 110-meter hurdles prelim with a personal-best 14.36 to finish eighth in the men's field.

Micaela De Mello notched a season-best 13.09 to qualify for the women's 100-meter hurdles final and Elena Willems lived to fight another day in the women's 800-meter with a 2:06.63 to qualify in ninth overall.

Kelvin Limo (8:52.52, fourth-place) and Sam Griffith (9:05.93, eighth-place) each scored for the Cougars in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase while Caroline Jerotich (10:17.00, eighth-place) grabbed a point for WSU in the women's steeplechase.

Tara Koonce moved her name up the all-time WSU women's hammer throw list after a personal-best 56.48m (51' 3") throw earned her a spot in finals as well as the ninth-best mark in program history.
Sunday's final day of field events at the Pac-12 Championships is set to lead things off in the morning with the men's discus at 11 a.m.  The final day on the track will open with the men's and women's 4X100m relays at 1 and 1:10 p.m., respectively.  Sunday's final day of competition will be televised live on Pac-12 Network with coverage beginning at 1 p.m.
