PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State women's rowing team had its second varsity 4+ crew take first place in its race to highlight the Cougars' lone home regatta of the 2022-23 season against No. 17-ranked Oregon State, Saturday, April 8.
WSU's 2V4+ crew opened the regatta and clocked in at 7:56.09 to win the 2V4+/N4+ race against the Beavers. The Cougars finished 4.55 seconds ahead of Oregon State to capture the victory. Washington State's novice 4+ boat also competed in Saturday's opening race, posting a time of 8:39.70.
Washington State and Oregon State once again raced for the Winchell Cup and Crawford Plate. The Beavers captured both the Winchell Cup and Crawford Plate by winning both the overall regatta and the 1V8+ race. It marks the third-straight season that OSU has won both trophies.
"I think we've taken some positive steps from last week," said WSU Women's Rowing Head Coach Jane LaRiviere. "I think the team raced well. Oregon State was a tremendous opponent, there is no surprise that they are ranked No. 17 in the country right now. We need to really have some focused practices coming up as we prepare for Gonzaga next Wednesday, then the Lake Wheeler Invitational after that."
The Cougars posted a time of 6:52.55 seconds in the Crawford Plate 1V8+ race to finish second to Oregon State. Oregon State clocked in at 6:47.90 to claim the Plate. Washington State's 2V8+ crew also took second to OSU in its race, as the Cougars finished the 2V8+ race with a time of 6:59.71.
WSU posted a time of 7:54.10 in the 1V4+ race, placing second to Oregon State who finished with a time of 7:47.07. The 3V8+/N8+ race capped off Saturday's regatta, with the Beavers claiming first in that race. Washington State's 3V8+ crew finished second with a time of 7:26.61, while WSU's novice 8+ crew rounded out the race with a time of 8:21.18.
Washington State will be back in action this Wednesday, April 12, when the Cougars head up to the Spokane River to race against Gonzaga. Check back with WSUCougars.com for a full regatta preview.
