CLOVIS, Calif./ CORVALLIS, Ore. — Washington State men's and women's track and field teams combined for three top-10 all-time times between two meets on Saturday; the Oregon State High Performance Meet and the Fresno State Invitational.
Elena Willems posted the sixth-fastest women's 800-meter (2:05.48) in WSU history to place second at the Whyte Track and Field Center in Corvallis while down in California,
Jasneet Nijjar improved to third all-time in the women's 400-meter dash (53.16) while placing sixth, and
Jared McAlvey clocked a 50.24
— tied for seventh all-time at WSU
— to win the men's 400m hurdles.
Fresno State Invitational Recap
The Cougs began the day on the track inside Veterans Memorial Stadium with a pair of runner-up finishes in both the men's 4X100-meter (39.87) and women's 4X100-meter (44.83) relays.
Micaela De Mello clocked a season-best 13.42 to earn first win of the outdoor season in the women's 100m hurdles.  Her win was followed shortly by
Jasneet Nijjar's sixth-place finish to move up the WSU 400-meter dash all-time list for a second time this season.
Louie Hinchliife tallied his second collegiate win in the men's 100-meter dash after clocking a 10.33 and
Skyler Walton finished third in the women's 100-meter dash field with a personal-best time of 11.55.
Mason Lawyer followed up with a 20.88 to win the men's 200m dash, a time that would have stood as a WSU freshman record if not for wind-aided conditions.
Oregon State High Performance Recap
Ronald Grueso Mosquera tallied his second-career outdoor win in the men's shot put with a mark of 18.36m while
Josh Farr finished runner-up in the men's javelin (60.94m).
The Cougars' young distance group tallied a trio of PR's in the men's 800m run from
Jacob Easton (1:53.27),
Aiden Emerson (1:52.15), and
Kyle Ortega-Gammill (1:52.09), but the team was led in the event by
Evan Gonzalez who finished 12th overall at 1:51.91.
Neema Kimtai hit a season-best time (2:06.63) in the women's 800-meter run but saw her name slide one spot down the all-time list as Willems jumped just ahead of her teammate with her second-place finish at 2:05.48.
