Cougars Post 11-2 Road Win at Seattle U

BELLEVUE, Wash. (April 12, 2023) – Elijah Hainline collected three hits while Kyle Russell and Cam Magee each drove in three runs for Washington State in an 11-2 nonconference win over Seattle U at Couter Field on the campus of Bellevue College Wednesday afternoon.
 
Washington State improved to 19-12 after recording 11 hits and was hit-by-pitch six times while seven Cougar pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts. WSU scored five in the third innings, two in the fourth and sixth innings to beat Seattle U (10-20).
 
Leadoff hitter Jonah Advincula reached base four times, scored three runs and stole two bases while Russell recorded two hits, scored twice, stole two bases and drove in three. Hainline tallied three hits, doubled and scored a run while Magee added two hits, walked twice, stole two bases and drove in three.
 
Starter Spencer Jones struck out four in three innings, Andrew Baughn picked up the win after working 1.1 scoreless in the middle innings and McKabe Cottrell struck out three in 1.1 scoreless innings.
 
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
In the second, the Redhawks took a 1-0 lead after a single, walk and RBI-single through the right side.
 
In the third, WSU pushed five runs across as Sam Brown worked a bases-loaded walk, Russell picked up an RBI with a fielder's choice groundout, Jake Harvey put down a perfectly place RBI-bunt single up the first base line and Magee capped the scoring with a two-run single into right field.
 
In the fourth, WSU added two more runs after Advincula walked, later stole third base and scored on the play after the throw went into left field. Russell followed with an infield-single to push the lead to 7-1.
 
WSU added two more in the sixth on RBI-singles from Magee and Fuchs to push the lead to 9-2. Russell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh and Advinucla capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.
