SPOKANE, Wash. -- Washington State men's and women's track teams closed out the final day of competition at the Buc Scoring Invite with a pair of wins from the jumps group as well as five podium finishes from the throws group Friday afternoon at the Whitworth Pine Bowl and Boppell Track.
Suzy Pace cleared 1.58m on her first jump of the day and secured her first win of the outdoor season and 11th of her career in the women's high jump by clearing 1.63m on her second attempt.
All three WSU men's long jumpers advanced to finals led by
Justin Sands who has now posted back-to-back wins to begin the outdoor season after a first-place finish Friday with another PR (6.82m) on his second jump durinig finals.
Matthew Metcalf rounded out the top-three with a third-place finish at
6.56m and Eli Lawrence made his Cougar debut and finished fifth with a 6.29m jump on his second attempt down the runway on the afternoon.
Nana Gyedu and
Gracie Strickland advanced to the finals in the women's shot put, finishing in 2
nd (14.26m) and 3
rd-place (13.64m), respectively. Strickland launched a personal-best mark on her first throw of the day.
Ronald Grueso Mosqquera won the men's discus with a mark of 52.05m on his second throw of the afternoon while Max Moore (50.18m) and
Caden Hottman (46.73) made it a podium sweep for the Cougars, finishing in second and third-place, respectively.
The Cougars will split the squad next weekend between the Texas Relays (March 29th – April 1st) in Austin, Texas, and the Stanford Invitational (March 31st – April 1st) in Stanford, Calif.
