SPOKANE, Wash. (March 21, 2023) – Washington State dropped an 12-7 nonconference matchup to Gonzaga at Steve Hertz Field Tuesday evening.

WSU dropped to 14-6 overall after Gonzaga (7-12) scored five runs in the first, two in the second and added single runs in the third and fourth.

Freshman
Max Hartman collected his first two career hits including a solo homer to right field,
Sam Brown doubled twice,
Elijah Hainline homered while
Jacob McKeon and
Cam Magee each added two hits.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
In the first,
Cam Magee pulled a single through the right side before McKeon doubled to left-centerfield and Brown followed with an opposite-field double to left field for a 2-0 Cougar lead. Gonzaga answered in their half of the first with five runs on five hits for a 5-2 advantage and added a two-run homer in the second to push the lead to 7-2.

The Bulldogs added a runs in the third and fourth innings but Brown doubled home McKeon once again. An inning later, Hartman hammered a solo homer to right field to make it a 9-4 game. Later in the inning, the Cougars put runners on the corners with two outs but the GU bullpen ended the threat with a flyout to left.

WSU and GU traded runs in the seventh and eighth innings before Hainline led off the ninth with a solo blast to right field.
