FRESNO, Calif. (February 11, 2023) – Washington State Tennis captured the opening doubles point and the top five singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over Cal Poly Saturday morning at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.

With the win, the Cougars sweep their two matches in Fresno this weekend and improve to 4-3 on the season. Cal Poly falls to 1-2.

In doubles play, the Cougars captured the opening point for the third-straight match, this time taking wins at No. 2 and 3. At No. 3,
Fifa Kumhom and
Hania Abouelsaad teamed up for the first time this season and came away with a 6-2 win over Kennedy Buntrock and Eliza Bates.
Eva Alvarez Sande and
Elyse Tse provided WSU's other victory, defeating Melissa LaMette and Kim Bhunu, 6-3 at No. 2. At No. 1, Cal Poly's sister duo of Peyton Dunkle and Delanie Dunkle posted a 6-4 win over
Maxine Murphy and
Yura Nakagawa.

In singles action, four of the Cougars' five victories came in straight sets as Alvarez Sande defeated LaMette 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 while Nakagawa defeated Peyton Dunkle 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3.

At No. 1, Murphy snapped a two-match skid as she emerged with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Bhunu at No. 1 with Tse completing a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5 over Buntrock. WSU's final win came at No. 4 where Kumhom needed a third-set tiebreaker to defeated Delanie Dunkle, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7).

Cal Poly earned its only win at No. 6 singles where Alexandra Ozerets defeated
Stefaniia Mikhailova 2-6, 6-0, 6-1.
