Ninth-ranked Cougs return favor, reverse sweep Trojans to close out weekend

Magda Jehlarova set a new program record by appearing in her 140th career match for WSU.

PULLMAN, Wash. —  Magda Jehlárová set another program record by appearing in her 140th career match, and No. 9 Washington State volleyball (20-7, 10-6 Pac-12) overcame an early two-set deficit to reverse sweep No. 25 USC (17-9, 11-5 Pac-12), 3-2, Sunday in Bohler Gym. Iman Isanovic registered a season-high 24 kills to go along with 10 digs for her fourth double double of the season, and Washington State notched its third-consecutive 20-win season on the final Sunday of 2023 on its home court.

Fifth-year senior Karly Basham finished with a team-high 15 digs, and Pia Timmer finished only one kill shy of a double double, tallying nine total to go along with 11 digs.  Julia Norville had a perfect afternoon receiving on the Cougars' back row to go along with seven digs, while Argentina Ung posted a season-best 53 assists as well as six kills, six digs, and six block assists.

WSU jumped out in front, 7-3, early in set five and never looked back, finishing off the Trojans in a 15-11 fifth set to avenge a 3-2 loss in Los Angeles back in October.  With the win, head coach Jen Greeny becomes the second coach in Cougar volleyball history to reach three-straight 20-win seasons, joining her former coach, Cindy Frederick, who accomplished the feat twice during her tenure.

Down two sets, Washington State came out on fire in the third set with a 6-1 run to start, capped off by a block assist from Argentina Ung and Magda
Jehlárová.  Washington State later went on a 3-1 run capped by a kill from Argentina Ung to force a Trojans' timeout at 18-13.  WSU would go on to win six of the final seven points to pick up the third-set win.
Iman Isanovic tallied her 18th and 19th kills of the match, respectively, to force a USC timeout with a 22-21 Cougar lead late in the fourth set.  Karly Basham had a huge dig to keep an attack from Skyler Fields in play, and Isanovic tallied kill No. 21 to send Bohler Gym into a frenzy after 27-25 fourth set win for the Cougs.
