EUGENE, Ore. – Washington State University posted a combined eight singles and doubles wins out of 12 matches during the first day of play at the 2023 Duck Invitational Friday at the Oregon Student Tennis Center.

Martina Markova each posted 3-0 records Friday, pairing together to go 2-0 in doubles then each winning their singles matches.

In the tournament's hidden dual format, where singles and doubles are played against different teams, the Cougars opened the day taking two of three doubles matches against Portland State. In doubles against Oregon later in the morning, the two teams split the first two matches. In the third, a pair from Portland defeated WSU as Oregon was not fielding a third doubles team.

In singles play against Portland, the Cougars captured five of six matches to complete the first day of action.

In Saturday's action, WSU will face Portland in doubles and host Oregon in singles. Play begins at 9 a.m.
