DAY 5 BLOG | Dubrovnik, Croatia and Gameday!
The team awoke to another wonderful hotel breakfast and then bussed to the Dubrovnik harbor for the Elephiti Islands cruise!
The water was so clear we could see 30-40 feet to the bottom as the boat approached the first stop. Upon disembarking, the players immediately began jumping off the dock and swimming in the harbor of the small village. The six-foot high wall along the side of the dock served as the perfect jumping off point into the deep water below (12-15 feet to the water surface). Some of the Cougs were more daring than others, but in the end every single player (and coach!) made the jump!
It was truly memorable as the more daring players and coaches started trying to one-up each other's dives, which turned in to and jack-knives and parachutes, and swan dives and flips.
Then we boarded the boat for the journey to the second stop – a more substantial village – with restaurants and shopping and a beach. Some of the team went to the beach while others wandered the town and hiked the paths into the hills above the village.
The boat trip back was picturesque, cruising the Croatian islands through the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic.
Back on land, the team bussed to a wonderful pregame meal on the beach, and then headed back to the hotel to mentally prepare (or nap) for the second exhibition game of the trip against ŽKK Budućnost Podgorica.
The Cougs played a much cleaner game in this one, dominating from the start and leading wire to wire. Tara Wallack had 11 points, Beyonce Bea had 13 points and a team-leading 11 rebounds, Jenna Villa continued her tear with 14 points including 4-7 from behind the arc, and Charlisse Leger-Walker led all scorers with 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
A well-played game to cap off the stay in Dubrovnik, as tomorrow the team travels to Athens, Greece!
