Ron Stone 2021 Arizona State

Will He Ever Run Out of Energy?

A perfect analogy to Ron Stone Jr.'s personality is his childhood ice cream order from Cold Stone: one scoop of chocolate and one scoop of cotton candy topped with marshmallows and rainbow sprinkles.

RJ is a loud soul and not shy about being the most outgoing person in the room. He is always the first one to volunteer to be on camera or engage in activities that will show off his fun, unique and talkative personality. RJ said he is never quiet because it's easier to get noticed by others and make valuable connections.

"I'm that person on the plane, who if you start talking to me by accident, we are going to be talking the whole time," RJ said. "I'll talk about anything, but I will rarely skip out on meeting someone new."

Both on and off the field, RJ chases after any opportunity to make connections and have a good time. These instances almost always involve a group of people and some type of competition. RJ said his love for competition and entertainment started as a kid when his family would have intense game nights or participate in sporting events during their annual "Stone-lympics."

Not much has changed since then. RJ passes on similar traditions from his family game nights to his team's away-game bus rides. He always packs his bag with the game "Catch Phrase" to play with a group of competitive teammates who will scream across the bus until they win the round.

Unsurprisingly, competitiveness is what drives RJ to success in football. But he says his outgoing and personable characteristics have also helped add to his success by building trust with his teammates as a reliable leader.

"I'm definitely known as the vocal energy kind of guy and I've always been put into leadership positions," RJ said. "That's what I hope to keep bringing to the team outside of what I can do physically or athletically."

After an ideally successful 2021 season as a Cougar, RJ said his dream is to play professionally and for as long as possible, a path that is familiar to the Stone family. Ron Stone, RJ's father, played in the NFL for 13 years, was a part of four different teams and won two Super Bowls.

RJ's personality thoroughly aligns with his aspirations to be on TV as a sports broadcaster after his football career. This path would allow him to surround himself in the competitive nature of sports, continue to make meaningful connections and foster his energetic "TV personality" characteristics.

"That's a part of the dream, too," RJ said. "I want to be a sports personality where I could get to go to all the games and just talk sports."
