EUGENE, Ore. – Micaela De Mello finished runner-up in the women's 100m hurdles (13.03 PR) and
Mitch Jacobson cleared a season-best height of 2.17m as the Washington State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams wrapped up the final day of the 2022 Pac-12 Championships at Hayward Field on Sunday.
After breaking her program record for the second time this season in Saturday's prelims, De Mello made it back-to-back record races with her 13.03 time in the 100m hurdles final. The freshman from Palhoca, Brazil made a late push to test USC's Jasmine Jones but ultimately came up .09 shy of the conference title.
Jacobson had only two misses as he worked his way past the 2.0m, 2.05m, and 2.08m jumps. He then cleared 2.11m, 2.14m and 2.17m all on his first attempts. Jacobson brushed the bar but cleared 2.17m -- 7-1.5 on his first try for a season-best mark to finish runner-up.
Zach Stallings posted a season-best time in the men's 1500m run, moving up two spots with a 59.84 split followed by a 55.66 final 400 to finish seventh overall at 3:41.33.
Ronald Grueso-Mosqquera hit a mark of 53.29m - 174-10.0 on his second attempt in the men's discuss and sat atop the leaderboard following the first flight.
Mevin Jelegat made her first push up in the women's 5000m field on her third lap around the track with a 1:14.61 400 split, her fastest of the race, and finished with a 1:17.08 final 400 to cross the finish line at 16:44.12.
Colton Johnsen sat in the front of the field over the first half of his race and finished the men's 5k with a 1:01.66 final 400 to place 10th with a team-best and season-best time of 13:43.11.
WSU led after the first two of three exchanges in the women's 4X400m relay as Renee
Yang, Jasneet Nijjar and Elise Unruh-Thomas set up Elena Willems with a lead going into the anchor leg. Willems started her 400 with a huge burst to give separation over the field, finishing her leg with a 55.8 split to help the Cougars place sixth overall after both heats with a season-best time of 3:41.71.
The men's 4X400 closed out the weekend with another season-best time, as Jared
McAlvey,
De'Antae Choates,
Blake Deringer and
Ethan Willems lowered their best time by almost a full second with a time of 3:17.36 in the final event of the meet.
