Rosemary Longisa Becomes the Third Fastest Mile Runner in NCAA History

| By:

Seattle & Spokane, Wash. – Rosemary Longisa makes history as she sets the third fastest mile time in NCAA history. Zenah Cheptoo also made WSU history, as her time in the mile today was the second-best in program history, breaking Longisa's record set last season. 17 different Cougs set personal bests in Seattle today, a record-setting day for WSU.

Rosemary Longisa cemented herself into the history books again this weekend with her performance in the Women's Mile at Dempsey Indoor. Her time of 4 minutes and 24.59 seconds was the third best in NCAA history and the current best in the NCAA Division 1. Her time was also the best the UW Invitational has ever seen, beating the previous record by three seconds. She also beat her own program record by almost 16 seconds over the time she set last year.

Zenah Cheptoo thought she had the program record this morning after beating Longisa's old time by two seconds, but little did she know her teammate would make history a couple of hours later. Cheptoo's time of 4 minutes and 38.61 seconds was second best in the seeded Women's Mile race, missing out on first by less than a second. Her time was a personal best and will be the second-best time in WSU history.

Nicole Bissell just missed out on the top 10 in the race, finishing in 11th with a time of 4 minutes and 45.93 seconds. Daphne Evenson, Aleeya Cossey, and Branda Kibor all set personal bests today and finished within 0.4 seconds of each other. Hailey Cossey and Maya Nichols also impressed today, finishing in the top 50 and setting personal best times.

Kutoven Stevens was the best male runner of the day for the Cougs, finishing in 13th in the Mile and setting a personal best time of 4 minutes and 4.15 seconds. Josphat Meli was the second best in the race, finishing with a time of 4 minutes and 12.29 seconds. Kade Brownell, Ferran Verges, and Eric Swedin all set personal best times in the race.

Lashanna Graham was up north in Spokane and set a season best in the Women's 300-meter race with a time of 40.36 seconds.
