Zenah Cheptoo Sets Program Record as Cougs Finish Day 1 at UW Invitational

Seattle, Wash. – Zenah Cheptoo set a program record in the 3k Invite as the Cougs start their weekend at the UW Invitational. 10 athletes set personal bests in Seattle today in a very successful day for the Cougs. Four Cougs finished in the top 10 in their respective races.

Zenah Cheptoo was the highlight of the day for the Cougs, finishing fourth in the Women's 3k Invite against an impressive field of women. Her time of 8 minutes and 53.90 seconds was not only a personal best, but a program record.

The Men opened up their weekend at the Invitational with two personal bests in the 5k. Eric Swedien set a time of 14 minutes and 37.92 seconds, finishing in sixth. Micaiah Aden also set a personal time of 15 minutes and 3.78 seconds. 

Four of the five runners in the women's 3k set personal bests this morning. Brenda Kibor and Mercy Biwott finished in the top 25 with times of 9 minutes and 26.49 seconds and 9 minutes and 34.88 seconds, respectively. Kylah Madariaga set a personal best time, finishing in 27th, with a time of 9 minutes and 35.54 seconds. The last Coug to set a personal best in this race was Hailey Cossey, finishing just one second behind her teammate.

Josphat Meli finished in 8th in the Men's 3000-meter race, an impressive finish.

Lily Herman and Lindsay Siebert set personal bests in the Women's 800. Their times of 2:14.09 and 2:15.44 was good for 44th and 51st, respectively. 

Kutoven Stevens set a personal best in one of the last races of the day, the Men's 3000 Invite. His time of 8 minutes and 10.35 seconds was worth 11th place.

The Cougs will continue at the UW Preview tomorrow, starting with the 60-meter hurdles at 9 am PT.
