STANFORD, Calif. (March 26, 2022) – Washington State dropped the series-finale 8-3 at No. 18 Stanford at Sunken Diamon Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars (9-14, 1-8 Pac-12) received an RBI-double from
Collin Montez and
Kodie Kolden singled and scored to extend his on-base streak to 29 games. Stanford (12-8, 4-5 Pac-12) took advantage of five WSU errors and used an eight-run fifth inning to take the series-finale.
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
In the third inning, Kolden led off the inning with a bloop single into left field, was bunted to second base and scored on Smith's two-out RBI-single through the left side. In the fourth, Montez reached on a fielder's choice and
Nate Swarts followed with a bunt single to third base that the Stanford third baseman threw down the right field line and Montez raced around for a 2-0 WSU lead.
Cottrell was cruising through the first four innings until a couple defensive miscues led to a big inning as eight runs came across after a hit-by-pitch, four walks, five hits and two errors gave Stanford an 8-2 lead.
In the sixth, Montez brought home
Jacob McKeon with an opposite field RBI-double over the Cardinal leftfielder.
