CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Laura Jansen (14),
Magda Jehlarova (13), and
Pia Timmer (11) each had double-digit kills in the 11th sweep of the season for Washington State volleyball (17-7, 9-4 Pac-12) as it defeated Oregon State (7-16, 2-11 Pac-12) in three sets, 25-19, 25-19, 25-22, Friday night at Gill Coliseum.
Washington State also finished the match with a 10-5 advantage in blocks and won despite and uncharacteristic 12 errors at the service line. The Cougars hit .327 (47-12-107) on the night and WSU improved to 14-0 on the season when winning the first set after beginning the match with a 25-19 first set.
WSU went on a 5-1 run midway through the opening set to go ahead, 15-8. A 4-0 run from the Beavers cut the lead to, 17-13, but the Cougs answered with another 4-1 run to go up, 21-14. Jansen finished the set with a team-high five kills as the Cougars hit a match-high .452 in the first and the Beavers suffered from six errors in a 25-19 opening set win for WSU.
OSU owned all of the early momentum in set two but a 4-1 WSU put the Cougars back within one point at 14-13. The Cougars took their first lead of the set with a 4-1 spurt to go up, 16-15, and later won the final six points of the set, winning 25-19 to take a two-set lead in the match.
The third set was back and forth from the first serve when an overturned call followed by
Argentina Ung's second solo block of the day put WSU ahead, 13-10. WSU later pushed its lead to five after a 4-0 run to go up, 18-13, and held off a late Beavers' run to finish off the match, 25-22.
The Cougars travel to take on 16th-ranked Oregon on Sunday beginning at noon. Washington State will embark on its final road trip of the 2022 regular season next weekend as it heads to Arizona to play Arizona State on Fri., Nov. 11, at 6 p.m. followed by Arizona on Sun., Nov. 13, beginning at 10 a.m (PST).
