PULLMAN, Wash. (Nov. 15, 2022) -- The NCAA released the latest Division I graduation rate data, including the division's Graduation Success Rate (GSR), which included a program-best score of 91 percent for Washington State Athletics.
Â
Washington State's most recent GSR score increased one percent to a record 91 percent, continuing a trend that has seen the Cougars improve their score in each of the past seven years. Dating back to 2008 when WSU's GSR score was 77 percent, continued improvement has been seen over the past 14 years, culminating with this year's score.
Â
"This year's GSR score reflects the growth and commitment of our student-athletes," said WSU Director of Athletics Pat Chun. "They have adapted to the challenges presented in today's academic environment and continue to thrive. Congratulations are in order for their accomplishments, as well as to our coaching and support staffs who ensure our student-athletes have the resources needed to achieve their academic goals."
Â
For the most recent data, WSU had four sport programs, men's basketball, women's swimming, along with women's and men's golf, all record perfect GSR scores of 100. It marked the fifth-straight year men's golf recorded a perfect score while the women's program posted its fourth consecutive and men's basketball it's third-straight score of 100. In all, 12 of WSU's 15 programs remained constant or improved over last year's score.
Â
Cougar Athletics also saw great improvement in the single-year GSR scores for the majority of its teams, with nine programs -- baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, soccer, swimming, tennis and volleyball -- recording perfect single-year scores of 100.
Â
The GSR includes student-athletes who received athletic aid and enrolled at Washington State as freshmen or transfer students between 2012-15, and completed their degree within six years.
