BOULDER, Colo. -- Pia Timmer had 12 kills and
Magda Jehlarova added 10 kills to go along with four blocks as Washington State fell (12-6, 4-3 Pac-12), 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 15-25, 25-9), on the road at Colorado (13-4, 5-2 Pac-12) Friday at the CU Events Center.
The Cougars, who had won back-to-back matches and four of five going into the night, were without several key pieces in their rotations and started slow offensively.
Colorado won the opening two sets as the Cougars were unable to finish off points and hit just .194 (11-5-31) and .158 (11-5-38), respectively, to begin the match. It was only the fourth match all season that WSU had dropped the opening two sets to begin the match.
Washington State came out on fire in the third and tallied 12 kills with only two errors (12-2-23) to hit .435. Colorado saw eight errors in the third, finishing with its lowest hitting percentage of the night (.038) as the Cougs tallied four blocks in the set.
WSU went on a 5-0 run to go ahead, 15-8, and later used a 4-0 run to push its lead up to 19-10. Washington State's serve rarely missed in the third set as all four of its service aces came in the set and the Cougars won, 25-15, to set up a potential comeback.
WSU suffered from 12 errors in the fourth set as the Buffaloes went on an early 8-0 run and never looked back, closing out the match with a 25-9 fourth-set win.
Washington State will continue its road trip across the Rockies as it gets set to take on Utah (10-7, 3-3) on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. (PST).
