HOUSTON (Feb. 25, 2021) – Senior Chloe Larson made history Thursday, giving Washington State its first Pac-12 Conference individual champion in program history with a win in the 50 freestyle at the conference championships in Houston.

Larson, who set the school record in the 50 free preliminaries earlier in the day, won the final by touching the wall in 22.18, six-hundredths of a second ahead of the three swimmers from UCLA, CAL and USC who all tied for second.

In the morning preliminaries, Larson recorded a school-record time of 22.16 in the same event, breaking former Cougar legend and Lithuanian Olympian Rugile Mileisyte's previous mark of 22.45 set in 2009. Larson's time was the third-fastest of the prelims, six-hundredths of a second behind the leader.

The conference championships continue Friday.
