Cougs Sit in First After Two Rounds of Play at the Meadow Club Invitational

The Washington State women's golf team put together one of its best rounds of the season on Tuesday, March 9, at the Meadow Club Invitational, as the Cougars shot 1-over 289 in the second round to end the day in first place on the team leaderboard at 582 (+6). Sophomore Amy Chu and senior Marie Lund-Hansen each sit inside the top-five on the player leaderboard going into the tournament's final round.

Washington State had four players shoot 1-over-par-or-better in the second round at the Meadow Club Invitational, as sophomore Amy Chu led the charge for the Cougars by posting 3-under 69 in the second. Chu was one of two WSU golfers to shoot under-par in the second round on Monday, as senior Marie Lund-Hansen shot 1-under 71. WSU goes into play tomorrow with a one-stroke lead over California, who begins the third round in second place with a score of 583 (+7). Oregon State and San Francisco sit in a tie for third place at 587 (+11).

Chu, who shot an even-par at 72 in the first round, shaved three strokes off her total score during her second go-around at the Meadow Club Golf Course, as she ended her day tied for second on the player leaderboard at 141 (-3), just one-stroke off the leader. The sophomore opened her second round by collecting three birdies over her first seven holes. Chu birded again on hole one and hole five during her back nine of play, before she rounded out her day with three-straight pars to finish the round at 3-under 69.

Lund-Hansen was consistent throughout the entire first day at the Meadow Club Invitational, as the senior shot 1-under 71 in both of the day's rounds, ending play in a tie for fourth on the player leaderboard at 142 (-2). The senior collected four birdies in both the first and second round to match Chu with a team-best of eight birdies heading into Tuesday's final round.

Chu will begin the tournament's final 18 holes in a tie for second place with San Jose State's Antonia Malate, as both golfers hold a score of 141 (-3) after the first two rounds of play. Cal's Katherine Zhu holds a one-stroke lead over Chu and Malate at 140 (-4).

Sophomore Darcy Habgood rounded out a trio of Cougs sitting in the top-20 of the player leaderboard after 36 holes, as the Nambucca Heads, Australia native sits in a tie for 17th at 148 (+4). Freshman Jiye Ham and redshirt junior Emily Baumgart round out the team scoring for Washington State, as Ham posted a 151 (+7) to finish in a tie for 32nd, while Baumgart scored a 157 (+13) to end her day in a tie for 58th.

Individually, senior Elodie Bridenne sits in a tie for 47th after posting a score of 154 (+10) through the tournament's first two rounds.
