Day 2: Individual Events Prove Successful for the Cougars

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. Second day of the Pac-12 Championships prove to be successful day for the Cougars. Four WSU swimmers notched WSU All Time Top 10 times, Lauren Burckel and Chloe Larson both achieved two WSU All Time Top 10 times.

The second event of the day brought success to the Cougars. In the morning Lauren Burckel and Mia Zahab both finished with WSU All Time Top 10 times, Burckel ending up in the second placed overall with a 2:01.75 and Zahab at the sixth spot in the standings with a 2:01.75.

Later, at night during the finals where WSU had three Cougars in the C Final in Lauren Burckel, Taylor McCoy and Mia Zahab. Burckel improved from her morning swim and ended the final with a 1:59.41 only .07 seconds from the WSU school record.

The last individual event was the 50 free, in the morning prelims Chloe Larson and Keiana Fountaine both finished with WSU All Time Top 10 times, with Fountaine ending up in the 8th spot with a 23.21 and Larson moving up to the 3rd spot with a 22.75.

Larson continued to get faster into the night swimming in the B final. Chloe quickened her pace notching a 22.64 in the finals, moving up to that 2nd spot and being only .19 seconds behind the school record time of 22.45.

 "We had some people step up and swim some big races that then put them in the position to swim at night" said Head Coach Matt Leach "It was really good to see our swimmers hitting those Top 10 times. We are knocking on the doorstep of those school records and once we get one those flood gates will open."

Matt continued by saying "We are excited with where we are going, we had four total swims tonight compared to last year where we only had nine total swims at night overall. We are on track to score more points and seeing that we are out swimming Utah when you take out diving is a good feeling too."
