T&F Record Set at Matador Qualifier

Charisma Taylor sets the WSU record in the 60-meter hurdles Friday afternoon.

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Washington State University Track and Field program was in action Friday afternoon at the Matador Qualifier inside the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center, where Charisma Taylor added yet another WSU record to her collection.

Taylor put on a display in the 60-meter hurdles as she posted a time of 8.19 in the finals, a time that would become not only the meet record at the Matador Qualifier, but the all-time WSU women's record in the event as well. Kreete Verlin continued to record strong marks for Washington State, this time in the long jump, posting a mark of 20-feet 5 1/4 inches (6.23m), setting a meet record in the process, and winning the event as well. Verlin showed off her speed in the 60m hurdles also, recording a time of 8.30, the fifth best in Cougar history, and placing second behind Charisma. Leonie Reuter improved in the high jump with a PR of 5-feet 11 1/4 inches (1.81m), and is now tied for tenth all-time in WSU history in the event as well.

RayRay Wells Jr. went on to finish second overall in the 60-meter dash at 6.69 seconds, just 0.07 behind the leader of Texas Tech. Jake Ulrich posted a second place finish in the 400-meter with a time of 47.46, a season best for the junior. Sam Brixey also turned in a second place performance for the Cougars in the 60-meter hurdles at 7.78 overall. Mitch Jacobson rounded out the WSU men's competitors as he finished third overall in the high jump with a mark of 6-feet 10 3/4 inches (2.10m).

400m:  Stephanie Cho – 54.51 (3rd)
60m Hurdles: Charisma Taylor – 8.19, PR (1st); Kreete Verlin – 8.30, PR (2nd)
High Jump:  Leonie Reuter – 5-11 1/4 [1.81m], PR (2nd)
Long Jump:  Kreete Verlin – 20-5 1/4 [6.23m] (1st)


MEN
60m:  RayRay Wells Jr. – 6.69 (2nd)
400m:  Jake Ulrich – 47.46 (2nd)
60m Hurdles:  Sam Brixey – 7.78 (2nd)

Washington State will now look ahead to the Mountain Pacific Sport Federation (MPSF) Indoor Championships next week, beginning Friday, Feb. 28, and will travel to Seattle to compete inside the Dempsey Indoor.
