LIHUE, Hawaii – The Washington State men's golf team finishes February with a trip to Lihue, Hawaii for the 44th Annual John Burns Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Hawaii. The tournament runs from Thursday to Saturday, Feb 20-22 at the Wailua Golf Course.
THE COURSE – This three-round, 54-hole tournament will be played at Wailua Golf Course and will be played as a par-72 at 6,991 yards.
THE LINEUP – Representing the Cougars will be senior
Daniel Kolar, and freshmen
Christian Yanagi,
Tianyu Wu,
Yuya Eguchi, and
Clayton Thatcher.
THE FIELD – The Cougars will play one round per day at the John Burns Intercollegiate, with play opening on Thursday, Feb. 20. Alongside Washington State, the 21-team tournament will feature top-ranked schools such as No. 6 Arizona, No. 10 Texas A&M, and No. 15 BYU. Also competing in Hawaii will be California, CSU-Fullerton. Grand Canyon University, Hawaii, Illinois, Long Beach State, New Mexico, North Carolina, Northern Colorado, St. Mary's, Santa Clara, UC Irvine, UNCW, UNLV, Utah, Texas El Paso, and Virginia.
LAST TIME OUT – The Cougars opened their 2020 spring season back on Jan. 28 at the Arizona Intercollegiate. Washington State obtained two top-50 finishes from
Daniel Kolar and
Tianyu Wu in Arizona. Kolar opened up his spring season shooting a six-over-par, 219, and finishing tied for 41st. Wu made an eight-over-par, 221 and finished in a tie for 49th. As a team, The Cougars placed 12th, shooting an 881 (+29).
COACH WHITE ON THE TOURNAMENT – "Everyone is eager to get back out and compete" head coach
Dustin White said. "Being in Hawaii adds another level of excitement, but we will be focused on each shot we have in front of us. We have guys who have played the course before who can help the others around. Our five guys will be the most prepared and excited to play come Thursday morning."
