Cougars Breeze Past Idaho

PORTLAND, Ore. – Washington State volleyball concluded the North Portland Marriott Invite Saturday morning with a sweep of Idaho.
Set scores from the match were: 27-25, 25-17, and 25-18 in favor of the Cougars (5-1).
The Cougars dominated right from the beginning in this contest against Idaho (2-4), with a 6-0 run fueled by Penny Tusa's four service aces. Alexcis Lusby and Magda Jehlarova added some fire power as well, each picking up one kill during the run. Idaho countered with multiple small scoring runs of their own to see this match tied up at 8-8. The Cougars answered right back with a 4-0 run with multiple kills by Jocelyn Urias to see the WSU advantage out to 13-9 overall. The Vandals continued to stay within striking distance in this opening set, as seven total ties occurred late in this first period of play. The Cougars finished Idaho off finally with a 4-1 run, capped by another kill by Urias.
Washington State continued to cruise after winning set one, beginning the second set of this match with a 14-6 advantage. Charity Bradley caught fire during this run, with multiple kills, and Penny Tusa added to run with several service aces as well. Idaho found a bit of life with a 4-0 run, but WSU quickly took back full momentum after a Bradley kill, and an Urias and Pukis block. Jehlarova finished the set against Idaho with a kill, as the Crimson and Gray won, 25-17.
The final set of this competition featured a fairly close battle early on, however the Cougars soon got right back into the groove with a 5-0 run and a 13-7 lead. Washington State continued to stay ahead of the Vandals throughout the remainder of this match, capping off the victory with kills from Mykayla Myers and Bradley.

Charity Bradley once again helped anchor the WSU offense with 11 total kills, and a hitting percentage of .240. Charity added three blocks to her stat sheet as well, and ultimately was named the North Portland Marriott Invite tournament MVP.

- Jocelyn Urias records 11 kills in the contest to help fuel the offense. Urias totaled five blocks and one service ace on the day as well.
- Penny Tusa recorded six service aces during the match, a career-high for the junior.
- Alexis Dirige led WSU in digs with 11 overall, and Aria McComber added nine to the defensive effort as well.
- Hannah Pukis tallied 32 assists in the match, and provided two blocks to the Cougar defensive front.
- Pukis and Urias each were named to the all-tournament team as well.
