BREMERTON, Wash. – Washington State Men's Golf ended 36 holes in 13th place overall at the conclusion of the first day of the Husky Invitational hosted by the University of Washington at Gold Mountain Olympic Course in Bremerton, Wash.

Senior Daniel Kolar produced a career day to open his final campaign at WSU as the fourth-year golfer holds the top spot for the Cougars, scoring a 139 (-5) through two rounds. The pair of under-par rounds marked the first time in Kolar's career that the senior had been under par in back-to-back rounds. His career effort put him in a tie for fifth place, just two strokes off the lead heading into the final 18 holes of play Tuesday. Behind Kolar, freshman Clayton Thatcher took the number two spot for the Cougars carding a 150 (+6) for a tie for 54th. Four strokes behind was fellow freshman Tianyu Wu who shot a 154 (+10) through two rounds and tied for 67th in the standings. WSU's third freshman in the lineup, Pono Yanagi, posted a 156 (+12) in his collegiate debut while senior Scott Redelsperger ended the day at +13 with a 157. 
 
Overall, the Cougars shot a 298 (+10) in the first round and a 299 (+11) in the second round. WSU sits in 13th place through 36 holes, five strokes behind San Diego. Washington leads its home tournament by eight strokes at -22, while Long Beach State sits in second at -14.
 
Owen Avrit of Long Beach State is the leader in the clubhouse after 36 holes. He carded a 67 (-5) in round one and a 70 (-2) for a combine score of 137 ( - 7).
 
Competition will continue Tuesday, Sept. 17 with 18 holes. However, severe weather is in the forecast and may alter playing times.
