Women's Golf to Host WSU Cougar Cup

THIS WEEK - The Cougars open up their 2019-20 campaign hosting the WSU Cougar Cup. The two day event will be played on the Palouse Ridge Golf Course for the only home tournament of the season. 15 teams and 15 individuals will play 36 holes on Monday, Sept. 16 before finishing with 18 holes on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The tournament is a preview of the 2020 NCAA West Regional that will be hosted by the Cougars in May, 2020. The men hosted the regional event in 2019 with the women taking center stage this season.

THE FIELD - Outside of the Cougars, the fifteen-team tournament will feature BYU, Cal, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Gonzaga, Idaho, New Mexico, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Francisco, Seattle U, and Washington.

COACH KAMIMURA ON THE TOURNAMENT - "This year the Cougar Cup has an awesome field, 15 teams, six Pac-12 teams, you know we're going to have 90 student-athletes out there competing on Palouse Ridge which we are really excited to showcase this facility before we host the NCAA Regionals this spring. Our goal is to go out there, play one shot at a time, compete hard, and represent WSU to the best of our abilities. I know we have players where this year we have a lot of depth in their game and we're excited to go out and see what we can do in competition."

REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE - Competing for the Cougars in the scoring five will be senior Marie Lund-Hansen, sophomore Darcy Habgood, redshirt-junior Emily Baumgart, freshman Ji-Ye Ham, and sophomore Amy Chu. In addition, senior Elodie Bridenne, sophomore Cameron March, and freshman Janine Surge will compete unattached as part of the 15 individuals playing in the 90-women field.

LAST TIME ON THE COURSE - The home tournament for the Cougars marks the season opener for WSU and the first time on the competitive course since the Pac-12 Championships last season. The Cougars excelled on the course throughout the summer including performances by Marie Lund-Hansen (1st, DGU Elite Tour/Wiibroe Cup - T1st, Danish International Ladies Amateur Championships), Emily Baumgart (medalist honors, Women's PNGA Amateur), and Amy Chu (Golf NSW team victory, Australian Women's Interstate Series).

COACHING STAFF - The team is led by 11th-year head coach Kelli Kamimura, who led the team to a the WSU Cougar Cup victory in 2017-18, the last year the tournament was held. WSU alumna Emma (Betland) White is entering her fifth season as an assistant coach. (Betland) White golfed at WSU from 2010-13.
