SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Washington State University Track and Field program began competition at the NCAA West Preliminary round Thursday afternoon.   Â
Brock Eager punched his ticket to a third NCAA Championships appearance in the hammer throw after he posted the second best overall mark at the NCAA West Preliminaries. Eager recorded a throw of 228-feet 6 inches (69.65m) to qualify and advance to Austin, Texas.

Aoife Martin turned in an impressive performance in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 195-feet 2 inches (59.50m). Martin's throw moves her up to second all-time in Washington State history in the event as well.

Emmanuel Wells Jr. qualified himself for Friday's quarterfinals in the 100-meter dash after running a 10.44 during a first round heat. Wells finished third overall in his heat to automatically qualify him into the next round tomorrow, and his time ranked 23rd overall on the day.

Jacob Englar finished 20th overall in the pole vault event with a mark of 16-feet 9 1/4 inches (5.11m), and
Amani Brown also turned in a 20th place finish in the hammer throw at 205-feet 6 inches (62.64m).
Christapherson Grant, who ran in the 400m hurdles, finished 24th with a time of 51.46, and
Paul Ryan ran in the 1500m, as he rounded out the day one field for the Cougars, finishing 27th overall at 3:47.59.
