Rowing Concludes Racing at San Diego Crew Classic

The second varsity four took home the gold in its race.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. –Washington State rowing's second varsity four captured gold, as the Cougars completed the final day of racing against the best crews in the country, Sunday at the San Diego Crew Classic at Mission Bay.

"Competition was fierce and we have two weeks to get better and that's what we are going to do," said head coach Jane LaRiviere.
The second varsity four (Coxswain – Jennifer O'Dell, Emily Weible, Ony Chigozie, Isabella Cristelli, Bow – Ella Cowan de Wolf) finished strong in the Women's Collegiate 4+ B entries final with a time of 8:08.635 to take first place. UCLA followed with a time of 8:19.553 to take second and Oklahoma took third (8:23.073). Tennessee, SDSU, San Diego and UC Santa Barbara finished respectively.

The varsity eight (Coxswain – Chloe White, Paige Danielson, Kamila Ondrackova, Emma Conaty, Rosalina Torcivia, Jessica Norris, Megan Duthart, Ivy Elling Quaintance, Bow – Emma Gribbon) finished with a time of 6:54.318 to earn sixth place. No. 2 California won the Jessop-Whittier Cup while No. 1 Washington, No. 4 Texas, No. 3 Stanford and UCLA followed in that order.

In the battle for the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy, the second varsity eight (Coxswain – Juliet Perry, Sara Brevick, Sophia Rogers, Nora Hefte, Sue Yu, Kateryna Maistrenko, Taija Thompson, Leena Kattel, Bow – Renee Kemp) clocked a time of 7:11.606 to finish sixth. Stanford won the trophy while Washington, California, Texas and UCLA followed.

In the Cougar's first race of the day, the varsity four (Coxswain – Hannah Welzbacker, Linnea Davison, Grace Arnis, Madeleine Bingham, Bow – Emma Barrett) captured second place (7:37.239) in the Varsity 4+ Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup Final 2 three seconds behind San Diego State who took first. Loyola Marymount followed close behind to receive third, while San Diego, Gonzaga and Tennessee finished respectively.

WSU will continue its spring season at Clemson, S.C. for the Clemson Invite April 19-20.
