COUGAR ROWING HOSTS GONZAGA: Washington State hosts Gonzaga in the battle for the 28th Fawley Cup at Pullman, Wash., Sunday, April 28...the teams will race over a 2,000-meter course at Wawawai Landing on the Snake River with racing scheduled to begin at 9 a.m...the racing will begin with the third varsity eight and novice eight race in which WSU will race a third varsity eight and novice eight crew...at 9:15 a.m. the varsity eight crews will take the water, followed by the second varsity eights at 9:30 a.m., the varsity fours at 9:45 a.m. and the second varsity four crews at 10 a.m., as WSU will race both an A and B boat in the final race.
ABOUT THE 28TH FAWLEY CUP: Â Washington State and Gonzaga's varsity eights meet each spring to compete for the Fawley Cup...the Fawley Cup has been awarded each year since 1991, with the exception of a canceled regatta in 2008...WSU has won 24 of the 27 Fawley Cup races since its inception.
LAST SEASON AGAINST GONZAGA: WSU won its 24th Fawley Cup at Silver Lake at Spokane, as the varsity eight crossed at 6:24.070...Gonzaga followed at 6:29.660...the Cougars' second varsity eightÂ
powered through the line at 6:41.100, a full 10 seconds ahead of Gonzaga's 6:51.960 finish...WSU's varsity four continued the streak and clocked a time of 7:16.730 while Gonzaga's varsity four followed with a time of 7:21.520 to sweep the regatta.

COUGARS RECEIVING VOTES IN USROWING/CRCA PRESEASON POLL: WSU is receiving three votes in this week's USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division I Coaches Poll presented by Pocock Racing Shells, released April 24...prior to this week, Washington State was receiving one vote in the poll...five of the seven Pac-12 rowing teams are ranked in the top-20 poll, Washington-first, Stanford-second, California-third, USC-11th, and Oregon State-18th…UCLA (28) and WSU (3) are receiving votes.

DIRECTIONS TO WAWAWAI LANDING: From Highway 195 (North or South), turn west on Wawawai Road at the blinking yellow light...travel on Wawawai Road for 10 miles, the road will end at a stop sign...turn right and drive six miles down into the canyon...go past the county park on the right and over the railroad tracks...the boathouse is a cinder block building on the right...park on the side of the road or in the parking lot south of the boathouse.
