WSU Rowing Travels East for Clemson Invite

Washington State University Rowing will head to South Carolina to race at the seventh annual Clemson Invite.

COUGAR ROWING BACK IN ACTION AT CLEMSON INVITE: Washington State rowing faces a talented pool of ranked competition as it heads to the seventh-annual Clemson Invitational, Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20 on Lake Hartwell at Clemson, S.C.

THE 2019 CLEMSON INVITATIONAL: The seventh-annual Clemson Invitational features a field of 21 teams...the schools are seeded into heats across two sessions, Friday, and those performances will decide placement for final heats, Saturday...Saturday's results will determine a champion, as well as each school's final team placing...racing will take place over a 2,000-meter course at Lake Hartwell...the Cougars' varsity eight will kick off WSU's racing Friday at 5:46 a.m. PT/8:46 a.m. ET...the field features top-ranked programs including; No. 10 Virginia, No. 12 Wisconsin, No.17 Duke, No.18 Oregon State, No. 19 Syracuse, and No.20 Alabama...seven of the participating schools are receiving votes in this week's USRowing/CRCA top-20 poll...official results will be tweeted at @ClemsonRowing as they become available.

LAST SEASON AT THE CLEMSON INVITATIONAL: Then-No. 15 Washington State placed sixth as a team at the 2018 Clemson Invite...WSU's third varsity eight had the best Cougar finish claiming second in the 'A' Final...WSU's varsity eight placed sixth and the second varsity eight placed seventh in their respective 'A' Finals...Washington State finished with 97 total points, 51 points for sixth in the varsity eight, 32 for the second varsity eight and 14 for the varsity four's ninth place finish...No. 4 Ohio State won the team championship with 130 points, followed by No. 9 Virginia in second (124 points) and No. 12 Wisconsin in third (113 points).

COUGARS RECEIVING VOTES IN USROWING/CRCA POLL: WSU is receiving one vote in this week's USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division I Coaches Poll presented by Pocock Racing Shells, released April 17...prior to this week, Washington State was receiving nine votes in the poll...five of the seven Pac-12 rowing teams are ranked in the top-20 poll, Washington-first, California-second, Stanford-third, USC-11th, and Oregon State-18th…UCLA (23) and WSU (1) are receiving votes.

COACHING STAFF: Jane LaRiviere is in her 17th year as head coach of the WSU women's rowing program...as a team, the Cougars have raced in 12 NCAA Championships under LaRiviere...she is joined by associate head coach Karl Huhta, assistant/novice coach Brandon Campbell, assistant coach Dave Kempsell, coordinator of operations Amy VanBuskirk, and graduate assistant Olivia Hecimovich...Huhta is in his fifth year with the Cougars, and second year as associate head coach...Campbell is entering his fourth year...Kempsell comes in for his second year, his first as an assistant coach with the Cougars after serving as the graduate assistant last year.
 
NEXT FOR THE COUGARS: The Cougars will host Gonzaga, Saturday, April 27 at Wawawai Landing at Pullman, Wash...the regatta will mark the final regatta for WSU before the 2019 Pac-12 Championships, May 19.
