BANDON, Ore. –Washington State men's golf is in 16th at the conclusion of the first round of the Bandon Dunes Championship hosted by Gonzaga at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort at Bandon, Ore.
The Cougars shot 320 (+32) in the first round, just one stroke above neighboring rival Idaho and five strokes behind Utah Valley in 15th. Ohio State (+3, 291) currently sits in the lead, three strokes ahead of second place Utah (+6, 294) and eight strokes in front of San Jose State (+11, 299) in third. No. 10 SMU (+11, 299) is tied for third as well.
SMU is the only ranked team in the top-5, with No. 32 Oregon (+13, 301) sitting in ninth, and No. 19 NC State (+20, 308) tied for 11th.
Daniel Wetterich of Ohio State leads the way, with a first round score of 69 (-3). Blake Tomlinson (-2, 70) of Utah is in second, just one stroke behind Wetterich. There is currently a seven-way tie for third, all even through the first round.
Junior
Nicklaus Chiam holds the top spot for the Cougars, carding a 79 (+7) in the first round to put him in a tie for 71st. Just a stroke behind Chiam are senior
Grant Cole (+8, 80), who has consistently found himself in the number two spot for the team, and junior
Scott Redelsperger in a tie for 79th. Junior
Daniel Kolar (+9, 81) follows just one stroke behind them in a tie for 85th, followed by senior
AJ Armstrong (+12, 84) in a tie for 98th. Sophomore
Ryan Maine tied for 45th, shooting a 77 (+5) as an individual.
