Cougars Head Back to the Green for Spring Season

After a long break, Washington State men’s golf looks forward to spring competition.
PULLMAN, Wash. - After a three-month break from competition, the Washington State men's golf team picks the clubs back up to continue the 2018-19 campaign.Â
"We haven't competed against other teams in a while," said head coach Dusting White. "If we just go out and continue what we've done here and just kind of carry that forward, we'll be ok."Â
The Cougars last competed in early November at Pebble Beach, Calif., in the Saint Mary's Intercollegiate, taking a 17th place finish. Now, as spring is right around the corner, the team has seven tournaments ahead of it. That is seven separate opportunities to finish the season strong.Â
"You can build a lot of momentum over the course of seven events in a pretty short amount of time," White said. "It's going to go by fast, but when you start playing, you want to just keep going."Â
The spring season starts Monday, Feb. 11. Although there is snow on the ground in Pullman, that won't cause a problem as the Cougars head down to southern California to participate in the Anteater Invitational at Newport Beach, Calif.Â
"I don't think it's that bad," White said about the weather. "It will give us a chance to work on some of the really important things we want. The guys will have a chance to maybe rest and refresh, then we leave on Saturday and we're kind of on the run from there."Â
On the run is an appropriate way to put it. The Cougars will be travelling up and down the west coast several times over the next three months, even taking a trip to Honolulu for the John Burns Intercollegiate.Â
Although a trip to Hawaii later this month sounds exciting, White wants his players to focus on what's next for them and take it as an opportunity to continue moving forward.Â
"I don't want guys to look at it like this is our first event of the spring or first competitive round in a while," White said. "We're going to have a lot of chances and rounds this spring to get better and if we just look at it for what it is, which is a chance to go out and compete and carry things forward and improve."
