PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University women's tennis team is ranked No. 15 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, released Wednesday. The No. 15 ranking is the highest in program history.

Additionally, sophomore Michaela Bayerlova rose in the singles rankings from 63 to 35 while junior Melisa Ates went from 115 to 106.

"We have had a good start to the season but there is a long way to go and at this point we just need to focus on our next match," said WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart.

The Cougars are off to an 8-1 start this season, with ranked wins over SMU (ranked No. 39) and Baylor (42), and Power 5 wins over Michigan State and Purdue.

The highest previous ranking came during the 2002 season when WSU reached a high of 26.

Washington State returns to the court Friday when it hosts BYU at Noon and Seattle at 5 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
