SAN FRANCISCO - Picking up where he left off from a season ago, sophomore CJ Elleby was recognized for his standout play on the court as the second-year Coug was named to the preseason First Team All-Pac-12 as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning. 2019 marks the first time in Pac-12 history the conference recognized a preseason all-conference team with 22 players earning the award including 10 first team honorees.

Elleby joins the list of the conference's top players heading into the 2019-20 season after putting together one of the best freshman season's in program history in 2018-19. In his first collegiate campaign, Elleby finished the year averaging 14.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, ranking 11th and 10th, respectively in the Pac-12. In 32 contests, he scored a freshman record 471 points, breaking Steve Puidokas' 45-year-old Cougar freshman scoring record. In addition to his scoring, Elleby finished second all-time among Cougar freshman in rebounds (227), scoring average (14.7 ppg), and field goals (168), while finishing top-10 in eight other season categories. For his play, Elleby was named to the Freshman All-Pac-12 First Team becoming the first Cougar to be named to the five-man All-Freshman Team since Reggie Moore in 2010.

Elleby and the Cougs begin the new campaign Thursday, Nov. 7 at home against Seattle U. Tip-off to the new season is scheduled for 6 p.m. on the Pac-12 Network.
