LONG BEACH, Calif. – Sophomore Hikaru Sato and freshman Pang Jittakoat rallied from a 4-1 deficit to capture the A Flight Doubles title at the 2019 Beach Tennis Fall Tournament, Sunday at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
 
The duo faced two early breaks against Long Beach State's Munoz and Lennon before rallying to force a tiebreaker. In the breaker, WSU escaped with 7-6 (8-6) victory for the title.
 
In the B Flight final, sophomore Yang Lee lost a break of serve each set as she fell to Long Beach State's Sadaf Sadeghvarizi, 6-4, 6-3.
 
In the C Flight consolation title match, freshman Maddie Egan rallied from a set down to defeat Cal State Northridge's Victoria Santibanez 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9).
 
In extra singles matches Sunday outside of championship draws, Sato posted a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Long Beach State's Wiktoria Rutkowska, while sphomore Savanna Ly-Nguyen defeated Cal State Northridge's Jolene Coetzee, 6-3, 6-3. Jittakoat needed a tiebreaker as a third set to defeat Loyola Marymount's Camila Tumosa, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7). Freshman Carla Quadflieg had a straight-set, 6-3, 6-4 win over Portland's Raphelle LeBlanc.
 
In additional doubles matches, Ly-Nguyen and Lee dropped a 6-3 contest against Rutkowska and Bardet, while Quadflieg and Egan fell to Fullerton's Acidera and Valenzuela, 6-1.
 
The Cougars are next in action Oct. 18-21 at the ITA Northwest Regionals at Stanford, Calif.
