EL MACERO, Calif. –Washington State men's golf stayed in 13th at the conclusion of the second round of the El Macero Classic, hosted by UC Davis Saturday.
The Cougars have a score of 605 (+29) through the first two rounds of competition. They are just one stroke behind Loyola Marymount (+28, 604) in 12th. No. 10 Texas Tech jumped into first with a score of 573 (-3). CSU Fullerton (-1, 575) is in second. Oregon State is on par at the conclusion of the second round with a score of (576 (E), putting it in third.
"We played more solid from tee to green today and were able to make some birdies," head coach Dustin White said. "We need to play the par 5's better, that's where you can make up shots on the golf course. If we can clean up our scorecards a bit more, we'll be in decent shape."
No. 48 Nevada is in eighth, with a two-round score of 587 (+11). No. 50 SMU (+24, 600) rounds off the ranked teams in tenth.
Seniors AJ Armstrong, Grant Cole and junior Daniel Kolar are all tied for 53rd, all with scores of 153 (+9). Junior Scott Redelsperger (+10, 154) is a single stroke behind the trio in a tie for 58th. Sophomore Ryan Maine (+11, 155) rounds off the team just one stroke behind Redelsperger in a tie for 63rd. Competing as an individual, junior Nicklaus Chiam is tied for 29th with a score of 147 (+3).
No. 16 Sandy Scott (-3, 141) and No. 74 Ivan Ramirez, both from tournament-leader Texas Tech, lead the tournament in first. There is a three-way tie for third between No. 85 Thomas Hutchison of tournament-host UC Davis, Sean Kato of Oregon State and Soren Lind of San Francisco, all with scores of 142 (-2).
"This week will be good prep for the Pac-12 Championship later this month," White said.
