SPOKANE, Wash.– The Washington State rowing team traveled north to Spokane to compete in its last fall regatta against Gonzaga and Oregon State, Saturday morning on the Spokane River. The Cougars sent four varsity eight boats and two novice eight boats.
 
"It was a great day for racing, and I appreciate Oregon State for making the trip and Gonzaga for hosting," said head coach Jane LaRiviere. "We had perfect conditions which was great given the wind the last couple of days. I think we raced really well. It is very rare to tie in a head race but Oregon State are worthy competitors. The entire team stepped up and it was a good boost going into winter training."
 
The Cougars had a strong showing overall. The varsity eight (coxswain Juliet Perry, Kamila Ondrackova, Ivy Elling Quaintance, Lisa Gutfleisch, Paige Danielson, Rosalina Torcivia, Sue Yu, Emma Gribbon, Taija Thompson) tied with Oregon State's varsity eight for first place with a time of 16:21. Gonzaga followed with a time of 16:29.
 
The second varsity eight ( coxswain Chloe White, McKenna Menner, Leena Kattel, Grace Arnis, Emma Conaty, Emma Dockray, Linnea Davison, Megan Duthart, Sophia Rogers) also secured first place with a time of 16:51 followed by Oregon State again who took second place with a time of 17:05. Gonzaga followed to earn third with a time of 17:26. 
 
Oregon State's third varsity eight boat captured first place with a time of 17:08. WSU's third varsity eight boat (coxswain Madison Williams, Olivia Olmstead, Ellie Higgins, Ella Cowan de Wolf, Isabella Cristelli, Emma Barrett, Madeleine Bingham, Sara Brevick, Cassidy Thompson) followed with a time of 17:25 to earn second place while WSU's fourth varsity eight boat (coxswain – Hannah Welzbacker, Nora Hefte, Emily Austin, Ony Chigozie, Taylor Blevins, Katelyn Ware, Kailee Williams, Chloe Strupulis, Rachael Christman) took third with a time of 17:32.
 
WSU's novice eight (coxswain Jenny O'Dell, Abigail Linnenkohl, Kaylee Logan, Tori Kison, Greta Geier, Samantha Schmidt, Natalie Williams, Caroline Kowalchuk, Devyn Wolfe) was also victorious earning first place with a time of 19:09 over a minute ahead of Gonzaga's novice eight who took second place with a time of 20:43.
 
WSU's second novice eight (coxswain Peyton Lanning, Kyra Parker, Allison Nelson, Emily Carlson, Cassy Goldenstein, Zoey Roberts, Alyssa Winter, Emily Bartholomew, Kendra Mutch) also took first place with a time of 19:17. Gonzaga's second novice eight earned second with at time of 21:05.
 
WSU's fall season comes to a close after today's strong outing in Spokane. The rowing team will resume competition in the spring.
