Minshew II Named Maxwell Award Semifinalist

PHILADELPHIA – Washington State quarterback Gardner Minshew II was named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, the Maxwell Football Club announced Monday.

Minshew II is one of 20 semifinalists for the award which annually recognizes the College Player of the Year. Minshew II was added to the award watch list following the win over Oregon State.

Minshew II has led the Cougars to a 7-1 record and a No. 10 national ranking while leading the nation in passing yards (3,183), passing yards-per-game (397.9) and total offense-per-game (403.9). The graduate transfer from Brandon, Miss. is fifth in the country with a Pac-12-best 26 touchdown passes and also leads the country with five games of 400+ passing yards.

Semifinalist voting for both of the collegiate awards presented by the Maxwell Football Club will begin on Wednesday Oct. 31 and will close on Nov. 18. Three finalists for each award will be announced on Nov. 19 and a second round of voting will take place at that time. Eligible voters include Maxwell Football Club members, NCAA head football coaches, sports information directors and selected national media. All semifinalists are listed in alphabetical order by school with the player's school, position and class designated.

The winners of the 82nd Maxwell Award and the 24th Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show presented by Gildan which will be broadcast live on ESPN on Dec. 6, 2018.
