WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE
STANFORD, Calif. -- The No. 21 ranked Washington State Volleyball program (13-4, 4-3 Pac-12) fell to to the No. 2 ranked Stanford Cardinal Friday evening on the road inside of Maples Pavilion.

Set scores for the match were: 15-25, 28-30, and 12-25 in favor of Stanford (15-1, 7-0 Pac-12).

This contest between top-25 Pac-12 rivals saw the Stanford Cardinal out to an early lead with multiple small runs to see themselves ahead at 6-4 to begin set number one. Stanford extended that lead with a 4-0 run shortly after, pushing their advantage to 10-4 in the match. The Cougars continued to battle throughout the set, as Claire Martin, and Jocelyn Urias provided some crucial blocks to keep that Cardinal lead slim, however Stanford went on to record the final three points to claim set one at 25-15.

Washington State refocused and came out swinging in set number two with clutch early kills from Taylor Mims, and Urias to hold an 8-4 advantage over Stanford. The Cardinal generated a 5-0 run of their own to take a 9-8 lead over the Cougars, and multiple ties and lead changes would soon follow in this second set, as WSU held a 15-14 lead at the midway point of the round. Mims had her offensive attack working late in the set as three straight kills from the senior gave the Cougars a 22-18 lead. Each of these programs saw multiple set points in set number two, but it was the Cardinal of Stanford to come away with the set two win at 30-28.

Set number three featured the Stanford Cardinal jumping out to an 8-1 lead to open up the third set of play in this match-up. Washington State took advantage of multiple Stanford errors along with some solid offense from Ella Lajos to cut into the Cardinal lead midway through the round. The number two ranked squad of Stanford continued to ride the momentum in set three as the Cardinal ultimately closed out the match with a 25-12 set win for the 3-0 overall victory against the Cougs.

"I definitely think our passing was much better in the second set, we also served pretty well that second set, we did some really good things, had our chances to take one, but then couldn't finish there right at the end," said head coach Jen Greeny.

Taylor Mims led the Cougar offensive attack with 12 total kills and a .476 hitting percentage.
Urias, Lajos, and Woodford each totaled six kills in the contest as well.
Ashley Brown totaled 28 assists in the match, along with adding eight digs to her stat-line.
Alexis Dirige provided 11 total digs, with two assists overall in this match-up.
