NEW YORK – Washington State pitcher Scotty Sunitsch was selected in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday.
Sunitsch was selected in the 18th round by the Brewers as the No. 21 pick in the round and No. 545 overall pick. Sunitsch is the first Cougar selected by the Brewers since shortstop Shea Vucinich (20th) and pitcher Seth Harvey (37th) were both drafted by the club in 2010.
Sunitsch, a 2018 All-Pac-12 honorable mention selection, led the Cougars in wins (6), strikeouts (74), innings pitched (84.1) and produced the second-lowest ERA (3.74). Sunitsch was named National Pitcher of the Week and Pac-12 Conference Pitcher of the Week in early April after throwing a no-hitter at Oregon. Sunitsch struck out nine in the 7-0 win to record the 25th no-hitter in school history and first solo nine-inning no-hitter since 1976.
In conference play, the Federal Way, Wash. native tied for eighth in the conference with four wins, tied for seventh with 62.1 innings, was sixth with 57 strikeouts and went six-plus innings in six of his 10 Pac-12 starts. Sunitsch finished his Cougar career fourth in WSU history with 85 appearances and tied for tenth with nine saves.
Earlier in the draft, junior Parker McFadden was selected in the 16th round by the Baltimore Orioles as the No. 11 pick in the round and No. 475 overall pick. Junior Justin Harrer was also selected in the 35th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates as the No. 1044 overall pick.
A pair of high school signees were also drafted; Brandon White (RHP) was selected in the 14th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers as the No. 434 overall pick and Kyler Bush (LHP) was selected in the 40th round by the Kansas City Royals as the No. 1202 overall pick.
