PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State pitcher Collin Maier was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 First Team, CoSIDA (Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America) announced Thursday.

Maier was one of 11 student-athletes named to the first team and one of just two pitchers. Maier is the first Cougar to earn Academic All-District first-team honors since outfielder Collin Slaybaugh earned the same recognition three straight years from 2012-14.

Maier, a redshirt-senior righthander, owns a 3.92 cumulative grade-point-average while majoring in mechanical engineering. The Great Falls, Mont. native shares the team-lead with 17 appearances, all out of the bullpen, and a 1-0 record with a 3.86 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 14.0 innings. Maier, who transferred to WSU from the University of Puget Sound in the fall of 2016, recently received his bachelor's degree in physical sciences and is scheduled to complete his post-baccalaureate degree in mechanical engineering this fall.

The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball and Softball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in June.
