SCOTTSDALE, Arizona - The WSU men's golf team marked their first top-five finish of the spring season on Sunday in Arizona, finishing fourth among a tough field at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate. As a team the Cougars tallied their lowest round of the tournament in the third, closing out the day with an even-par, 288, to bring their three-round score to 877(+13), two strokes better than No. 34 ranked Saint Mary's. The Cougars and the rest of the field finished behind tournament champion and No. 44 ranked Kansas which completed the two-day tournament at -11 as a team.

Individually, four Cougars finished in the top 25 of the tournament, led by junior AJ Armstrong who tied for 15th. A 69(-3) and a 73(+1) in the second and third rounds of action brought Armstrong to an overall two-over, 218(+2), to tie with two other golfers.

While Armstrong led the way for the tournament, seniors Zach Anderson and Brian Mogg came up with the Cougars' best 18-hole scores of the final round. Anderson scored his lowest round of the tournament in the final day, tallying four birdies to go one under par with a 71. He would finish just one stroke shy of Armstrong overall to place 18th with a 219(+3).

Mogg moved up eight positions to finish tied for 19th overall and matching Anderson's 71(-1) Sunday afternoon. Mogg sat tied for 27th following the second round, but rallied to mark his lowest score of the tournament to bring his overall score to 220(+4).

Senior Derek Bayley shaved six strokes off of his second round score in his final trip around the course, marking a 74(+2). Bayley tied for 21st with a three round score of 222(+6).

The Cougars will look to continue their momentum in the Bandon Dunes Championship, which will take place Sunday, March 11-13 in Bandon, Oregon.
