WESTLAKE, Calif. - The WSU men's golf team finished tied for eighth place at the Southwestern Invitational, Tuesday evening at the North Ranch Country Club . The Cougars tied with the University of Denver, each scoring three-round scores of 903 (+39). No.22 UCLA took the tournament title, going eight under par with an 856.
 
The first round of the tournament was delayed by two hours  Monday morning; therefore teams were unable to finish the second round before dark. The teams teed off the latter half of the second round Tuesday morning after experiencing yet another delay due to frost. The third and final round of the tournament immediately followed.
 
Junior AJ Armstrong tied for 27th place after shooting an 80 (+8) in the final round. Senior Brian Mogg recorded a three round score of 226 (+10) to finish tied for 30th.
 
Senior Derek Bayley closed out the third round with a 79 (+7). Bayley shared his three round score of 227(+11) with six others, to tie for 33rd.  Sophomore Daniel Kolar tallied three birdies and shot par nine times in the third round to finish with a 76 (+4), to tie for 39th (229, +13).
 
The Cougars sat in fifth place after the first round on Monday, and were led by Mogg and Armstrong who each marked a 74 (+2) to land tied for 15th.
 
Bayley and Kolar sat one stroke behind them, sharing a score of 75 (+3). The team went into round two with an overall score of 298 (+10).
 
Armstrong continued to lead scoring in the second round, marking four-consecutive birdies in the fourth through seventh holes and an eagle in the 12th, to finish tied for ninth with a 14 5(+1).
 
Bayley went one over par in the second with a 73, which added to his two round score of 148(+4), and headed into the third round in 15th place.

The Cougars jumped up to third place following the second round after scoring a 299 (+11), to bring the team's two round score to 597(+21).
 
The Cougars will next head to Scottsdale, Arizona to compete in the Desert Mountain Collegiate on March 3-4.
