Cougars Finish Eighth at Pac-12 Championships

Three Cougars hit NCAA "B" Standard times.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Washington State swim team finished the Pac-12 Conference Championships Saturday in eighth place with 307 points. Ten Cougars recorded season-best times in their respective events.

Freshman Taylor McCoy and Emily Cook hit NCAA "B" Standard times in the 200 back at the Pac-12 Championships. Pullman, Wash. native McCoy touched the wall in a season-best time of 1:57.52 for 20th place. McCoy's time marked the fifth-fastest freshman in the event and moved her to up to third in WSU All-Time Top-10. Cook also clocked an NCAA "B" Standard time, touching the wall in 1:58.27 for fifth fastest in program history. Cook's time marks her second NCAA "B" Standard time this season, as she set the 100 back standard time Friday. Junior Jasmine Margetts also set an NCAA "B" Standard time in the 200 fly with a time of 1:57.92 for 17th place.

Sophomore Ryan Falk led the way in the 1650 free, clocking in a season and career best time of 16:50.30 for fourth fastest in program history. Sam Howell also hit a season best mark in the event, touching the wall in 17:14.48.

Freshman Alba Fores led the way for the Cougars in the 100 free, touching the wall in 50.21 for 22nd place. Chloe Larson (50.77), Anna Brolin (51.74), Talisa Wibmer (51.75), Ciera Kelly (51.81), and Penny Nichols (52.54) all hit season best marks in the 100 free.

Mackenzie Duarte and Clothilde Peseux competed in the 200 breast finals. Duarte clocked in at 2:16.19 for 21st while Peseux finished in 23rd with a time of 2:18.40. Linnea Lindberg clocked in at 2:25.48 in the preliminary round of the 200 breast.

The Cougars finished the day placing seventh in the 400 Free Relay. Freshman Chloe Larson, senior Rachel Thompson, and freshmen Kelly Morgan and Alba Fores touched the wall in 3:21.12 for the fastest relay of the season.
