Brown Paces The Cougs, Puts Herself In Contention In New Mexico

The Cougs played their first two rounds of the year at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Opening the new year on the road at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, senior Alivia Brown finds herself in contention after first day action to pace the way for the Washington State women's golf team. The team team closed out the first two rounds in 14th place after shooting a combined 574 Monday at the UNM Championship Golf Course. The team shot a 296 (+12) in the first round and followed with a 278 (+4) in the second.

Brown marked the best day for the Cougars, finishing the first round with a 70 (-2) and the second with a 73 (+1) for a total of 143 (-1). At one-under par, Brown pushed into the top-10 as she ended the day tied for eighth place on the individual leaderboard.

Sophomore Marie Lund-Hansen is tied with four others for 24th with a score of 145 (+1) after two rounds. Senior Bree Wanderscheid is tied for 66th after shooting a 74 (+2) and 77(+5) for a two round score of 151 (+7).
The Cougs and the rest of the field trail Oklahoma State which finished the day in the lead, shooting a 575 (-1) for the two rounds. Arizona followed shortly behind with a 576 after shooting an even par 292 in the first round and matching Oklahoma State's 284 (-4) in the second round. Individually, Arizona's Bianca Pagdanganan sits atop the leaderboard at 10-under par through 36 holes.
The tournament will conclude Tuesday with the teams teeing off at 7:30 a.m. Live results will be posted on birdiefire.com.
