Alivia Brown to Begin Action at NCAA Lubbock Regional

Brown is making her second appearance as an individual at the NCAA Regionals, after placing sixth in 2015.
BROWN HEADS TO NCAA REGIONALS: For the second time in her three-year career, junior Alivia Brown will represent the Washington State women's golf team at the NCAA Regionals as she heads to Texas, for the 2017 Division I Women's Golf Lubbock Regional, May 8-10…Brown was selected to the tournament as an individual, becoming the first Cougar women's golfer to be selected to two NCAA Regionals as an individual…she is also the only WSU women's golfer since 2007 to appear in the postseason…Texas Tech will serve as host for the 54-hole regional tournament.
THE COURSE: The NCAA Lubbock Regional will take place at the Rawls Course, an award-winning facility in Lubbock, Texas, which serves as home to the Texas Tech men's and women's golf programs…the course will play with a par of 72 and at a 6,593 yards…competitors will play 18 holes each day with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. CT (6 a.m. PT)…Brown open up the tournament teeing off of hole 10 at 8:50 a.m. CT (6:50 a.m. PT).
THE FIELD: Eighteen teams will compete at the regional, including Pac-12 members No. 2 UCLA, No. 7 Arizona State, No. 47 Oregon and No. 55 Oregon State, as well as No. 10 Furman, No. 15 Kent State, No. 18 Texas, No. 23 Oklahoma, No. 28 BYU, No. 30 San Diego State, No. 34 Texas Tech, No. 38 TCU, No. 42 UNLV, No. 50 Iowa State, Murray State, Georgetown, Richmond and Sacred Heart…in addition, six individuals will be competing, including Alivia Brown (Washington State), Caroline Nistrup (LSU), Malene Krolboll Hansen (Coastal Carolina), Lois Kaye Go (Boston College), Jakeishya Le (UC Riverside) and Katrina Prendergast (Colorado State).
ABOUT ALIVIA BROWN: A native of Gig Harbor, Wash., Brown competed in all 11 tournaments for the Cougars this season…she led WSU averaging 73.65 strokes per round, which is on pace to be the lowest season scoring average for the Cougars in school history…she notched five top-15 finishes on the season, including three in the top-5…Brown is making her second appearance at the NCAA Regionals, becoming the only Cougar to be selected to two as an individual during her career.Â
HEAD COACH KELLI KAMIMURA SAYS: "I just think Alivia is an exemplary student-athlete. She works so hard and does well on the golf course, but also has success in the classroom, so it's nice to see her accomplishments recognized. We always look forward to going to NCAAs, it's exciting Alivia gets to go. With our team mindset it's 'one shot at a time', so she'll go out there and play her best. She's playing well right now and we hope for a great event."

LAST TIME AT REGIONALS: Then a freshman, Alivia Brown, qualified for the 2015 NCAA Championships after earning a berth into the 2015 NCAA St. George Regional…at the regional, Brown fired a three-round 219 (+6) on the Entrada Golf Course at Snow Canyon Country Club to finish in sixth place…Brown's first and third-round 71s tied for the best single-round score by a Cougar in postseason history.
THE 2017 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS: Of the total 384 participants at the four regional competitions, 132 will advance to the championship finals…six teams and three individuals will advance from each regional…the NCAA Championships will be held May 19-24 at Rich Harvest Farms, at Sugar Grove, Ill., hosted by Northern Illinois.Â
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: The Cougars traveled to Tucson, Ariz., for the 2017 Pac-12 Women's Golf Championships at Sewailo Golf Club…WSU fired its best single-round score of the tournament in the final round to finish 11th with a three-round score of 935 (+71)…junior Alivia Brown and freshman Marie Lund-Hansen (231 (+15) led WSU as they tied for 33rd.Â
COACHING STAFF: The team is led by eighth-year head coach Kelli Kamimura, who led the Cougars to a conference-championship team record for the lowest three-round and single-round totals at the 2016 Pac-12 Championships…WSU alumna Emma White (Betland) is entering her third season as assistant coach, and golfed at WSU from 2010-2013.
