Cougars Head to Hawaii for Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational

The Cougars return to the tournament for the first time since 2013-14.
THIS WEEK: The Washington State women's golf team heads to Kaneohe, Hawaii, to compete at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational hosted by Hawaii, March 14-15, at Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course.Â
THE TOURNAMENT: The 32nd Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational is hosted by Hawaii…teams will play on the par-72, 6,099-yard Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course…the first two rounds will take place Tuesday with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. PT/8 a.m. HT…the final round will be played Wednesday with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. PT/8 a.m. HT.
THE FIELD: Four teams in this year's field are ranked in the Top 25, including No. 16 Texas A&M, two-time defending tourney champion No. 19 Oklahoma State, No. 21 Texas, and No. 24 North Carolina State…making up the rest of the 15-team field are Ball State, Georgia State, Hawai'i, UH-Hilo, Idaho, New Mexico, North Carolina, SMU, Texas State, UTEP, and Washington State.
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougar women will be junior Alivia Brown, freshman Marie Lund-Hansen, senior Cherokee Kim, sophomore Madison Odiorne, and junior Bree Wanderscheid…freshman Elodie Bridenne and junior Jamie Midkiff will compete as individuals.
LAST TIME AT THE DR. DONNIS THOMPSON INVITATIONAL: The Cougars last competed at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational during the 2013-14 season, as WSU notched its second top-5 finish of the season, placing fifth…then-junior Kristen Rue and then-senior Mallory Kent led the Cougars tying for 11th (+8, 224) and 16th (+10, 226), respectively.Â
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: The Cougars used their second-lowest team round in school history (-5, 283), to move up the leaderboard and finish ninth at the Westbrook Spring Invitational, Feb. 26-27, at Westbrook Village Golf Course in Peoria, Ariz….competing as an individual, junior Bree Wanderscheid shot 2-under in the final round, her lowest single-round score of the tournament, and tied for 21st (218)…freshman Marie Lund-Hansen led the team, tying for 23rd at 3-over par (219).
COACHING STAFF: The team is led by eighth-year head coach Kelli Kamimura, who led the women's golf team to a conference-championship team record for the lowest three-round and single-round totals at the 2016 Pac-12 Championships…WSU alumna Emma Betland is entering her third season as assistant coach…Betland golfed at WSU from 2010-2013.
