SAN FRANCISCO – Continuing the release of postseason awards, the Pac-12 Conference office announced the 2017 All-Academic team Wednesday afternoon with eight Cougars earning honorable mention honors. Earning the distinction for their work in the classroom were Jordan Branch, Kelsee Crenshaw, Ella Dederick, Grace Hancock, Chelsea Harkins, Maddy Haro, Katie Jones, and Maegan O'Neill.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA, have been at the institution for one-full year, and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's games.
For the duo of Dederick and Branch, the award marks the third-straight year the two captains have earned honorable mention honors together. Dederick, a humanities major with a 3.15 GPA will have a chance to be one of the few student-athletes in conference history to take home four all-academic awards as a redshirt-senior next year while Branch, a Zoology major with a 3.24 GPA, will graduate later this academic year.
Behind the two captains, the Cougs saw Crenshaw, Hancock, Harkins, Haro, and O'Neill all pick up their second Pac-12 All-Academic awards. Crenshaw, an apparel merchandising textiles major with a 3.25 GPA, and Harkins, an English major with a 3.18 GPA, will both leave WSU this year with their degree in hand. Juniors Hancock, a sport science major with a 3.63 GPA, Haro, a journalism and media productions major with a 3.48 GPA, and O'Neill, a management major with a 3.02 GPA, all return next season to lead a veteran Cougar squad.
In her first year of eligibility, Jones picked up her first career award after posting a 3.75 GPA in psychology.
